Lifeguard Certification Course
Onondaga County Parks is offering an American Red Cross lifeguard training and certification course at the Jamesville-Dewitt Middle School Pool.
Participation in all sessions is mandatory and all course participants must be at least 15 years of age prior to April 2, 2013 and pass a pre-course swimming skills evaluation, which will require students to complete a 550 meter swim (may use front crawl or breathstroke), a 2-minute water tread without use of hands, and a timed skills evaluation.
The cost of the course $225.00 per student; checks are payable to "Onondaga County Parks", and can be mailed to Oneida Shores Park, 9248 McKinley Ridge Road, Brewerton, NY 13029. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding.
Lifeguard certified individuals have a great opportunity for summer employment at either County Parks or other local pools and waterfront facilities in the area. Throughout the summer, Onondaga County Parks operates two beach facilities located at Jamesville Beach Park in Jamesville and Oneida Shores Park in Brewerton. Both beaches are open from Memorial Day through the end of August.
